Whether you’re a business owner or a consumer, we’ve all heard of the Better Business Bureau. However, you may not know what they are or what they do. Here is a brief explanation of what the Better Business Bureau is, as well as a brief oversight of the services they provide.
WHAT IS THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU?
The Better Business Bureau, also known as the BBB, is a non-profit organization that assigns rankings to businesses, charities, and non-profit organizations.
HOW IS A BUSINESS RATED?
Just like in school, an organization receives a ranking on an A+ to F letter scale. There are several factors that determine what this grade is, including:
- Length of operation
- Having the appropriate licenses
- Following advertising standards & procedures
- Number of complaints
- How company responds to complaints
- Known government actions against company
HOW CAN I IMPROVE MY RATING?
The number one factor that can lower your rating are outstanding complaints from customers. Handling these complaints in a timely manner as they happen can help increase your score. Using these complaints to improve how your business is run, to help decrease the amount of complaints you receive in the first place, can help over time.
HOW DO I LEAVE A REVIEW?
If you want to leave a review on the BBB about a company that you did business with, first you will need to go to the BBB website. Next, you will need to find the business that you want to leave a review about. Keep in mind that many businesses have the same name, so make sure you pick the right one. You will then leave a review from between 1 to 5 stars. While you don’t need to leave an explanation why, the more detail you are able to provide, the more likely you are to help another consumer.
