We always hear how important it is be green during the spring and summer months as we start to spend more time outdoors, but what about in the winter? While it may hard to visualize when everything outside is gray and dreary, it’s just as important be green. Here are some tips for staying green during the winter time.

Carpool

While vehicle pollution is a year-round problem, it can be especially problematic during the harsh winter months. This is especially true for urban areas located in valleys where cold air can stagnate and become trapped. Carpooling can help save your vehicle from normal winter wear and tear and can also save you money on gas and maintenance.

Programmable Thermostat

Having your heater on full-blast when nobody is home isn't just a waste of money but also of energy. With a programmable thermostat, you can have the heat turn down automatically during the times you aren't usually home; then, you can have it resume about 30 minutes before you get back to the house.

Winterize Your Home

If you haven't already done so, take some time to prep your home for the winter so it’s as energy-efficient as possible. This means checking windows and doors for leaks to ensure there’s no way for warm air to escape. The more winterized your home, the less energy you’ll use and the more money you’ll save.

Indoor Plants

An indoor plant can help improve the quality of air in your home by releasing moisture which helps maintain heat levels. Plus, they are also great décor for your home, can help combat dry winter skin, and give you a mood boost.
